Building the Education Revolution – Primary Schools for the 21st Century

To facilitate the roll-out of the ‘Building the Education Revolution (BER) – Primary Schools for the 21st Century, the NSW Government appointed Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction Pty Ltd in April 2009 as Managing Contractor for the Western NSW and Riverina Regions.

Laing O’Rourke will engage local delivery partners for the construction of halls, covered outdoor learning areas (COLAs) libraries, classrooms and classroom refurbishments in 329 Primary schools in the Western NSW and Riverina regions over an 18 month period. Laing O’Rourke will expedite the delivery of multiple school projects over a vast geographical area, to ensure community needs and the National Building –Economic Stimulus Plan needs are met.

Planning commences for administration centre

In less than 18 months, what is now an empty sporting field at Mulyan Public School will be transformed into a $1.7 million administration centre, described as one of the biggest projects in the region’s Education Infrastructure Program.

The first stage of construction was undertaken last Friday, with a team of surveyors, engineering and construction experts visiting the school to begin the planning process and conduct an onsite inspection.

Local employment forums are being held across country New South Wales for builders and businesses keen to join the “Building the Education Revolution” school infrastructure program.

The program, part of the Australian Government’s Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan, will enter the construction phase from June 30, delivering new capital works to every primary school in Australia.

Laing O'Rourke awarded major role in NSW school building program

On Friday 17 April, New South Wales Premier Nathan Rees announced Laing O’Rourke as one of the successful Managing Contractor providers for New South Wales’ largest ever school building program.

Laing O’Rourke will be the Managing Contractor for the Riverina and Western New South Wales regions, which covers more than half the state.

The Commonwealth-funded Nation Building Economic Stimulus Package will see the fastest program of capital expenditure ever undertaken in New South Wales.
